During the development of this Installment, I was spending a lot of time in the print shop re-learning the in’s and out’s of screen printing and other practicalities that bled into this release. Throughout the language of ESN there’s this notion of noticeable flaws and finding contentment or even satisfaction in them. These pieces are simple, practical, but have slightly imperfect details: faded prints, broken threads, different garment washes, etc. because everything is done by hand not a machine. Even though “Nothing is perfect”, I think we’re okay with that as long as we can give the perception that we are. In screen printing you’ll quickly find that the extremely tedious but necessary steps lead to an imperfect product, but it’s the unknown, organic outcome that we really crave and that is what’s beautiful about it.
All that being said, these items weren’t made with the intention to be hung perfectly in a closet and worn once - they’re for the person who get’s their hands dirty. The only way to get a true worn in look is to wear it.
